Machines 3, the forth installment of an expanding film project took place at Eastside projects, Birmingham in November 2008. Here viewers were encouraged to participate in the production of the work. Wearing machine mutant headsets with wireless video cameras attached the audience were able to explore there way through an installation. The participants were also able control what they viewed and what was being recorded on wireless receiver guns, which had portable televisions attached. Here the audience could become both a character within the movie and a director of the film. Machines 3 explores the relationship that the audience can have with these technologies. Questioning their experiences and becoming actively aware of the presence that ‘film’ has on the work, as they view both physical and virtual spaces.
