MACHINES 2
THE MACHINES
MACHINES 3

Machines 3 was recorded at Eastside projects; Birmingham 2008  Here the audience had to wear Machine mutant headsets when entering a film set. Attached to the headsets and other props in the space were remote wireless cameras. With the headsets the viewers became cameramen, creating their own ‘filmic’ journey. They also become a character to be viewed. They could see what effects ‘film’ was having on the work through portable television sets attached to guns. With these they could switch camera views and control what was being recorded.

Machines 2, was created during a residency at Het Wilde Weten, Rotterdam, 2007. This involved the audience controlled a radio--controlled tank around a film –set. Here the audience saw the ‘world ‘through the eyes of the vehicle. And reacted to the drama as it unfolded.  The crudely made film -set that was subverted by low-tech video equipment and Size, scale and perspective was warped endlessly using various forms of illusion, altering the audience’s perception of the space. I performed to the camera within the films-set, as I became both director and actor within the film.
The Machines was a video performance event at Periscope, Birmingham, 2007. The exhibition explored new ways of creating film. It became a trial-run for future performances. For this I created small film-sets which i filmed through using a wireless camera. I reacted to live music, finding  new possible narratives within the film-sets. Footage recorded at this event was incorporated into Machines 2.
Zero investigates between the viewer, a musician, the artist and film. It documents the happenings of an interactive performance in which a radio-controlled tank is directed through a remote film set by a member of the audience. Within the stage set the artist acts in response to the tank’s movements and a musician creates an immediate soundtrack for the film as it unfolds.
